Combining Abstract, Watercolor, and Floral
Abstract art is hands down my favorite style. I've been drawn to it since I was a young girl. But as I've grown older and began creating my own art, I find I love it more and more. There's something about the structured chaos of abstract. It's chaotic, but it's balanced; much like myself, haha!
I indeed love all things abstract, but I feel drawn to watercolor lately and with spring coming, florals are definitely an inspiration. So a couple weeks ago I decided to combine the three. At first, I was a bit daunted. I dabbled here and there and nothing really stuck. I didn't even have a vision for what I wanted. What colors? What dimensions? I've found that when I have to clear of a vision of what I want, it never works out anyway, so I just kept working at it. And working, and working, and working until I got to the point that I was seriously doubting my ability.
I was beyond frustrated and ready to give up. I took an entire day off (I never take entire days off) from all creativity because I was so overwhelmed by defeat. I spent an entire morning and afternoon binge watching True Blood. There's nothing like an absolutely ridiculous, raunchy show to calm the nerves and ease the mind. It must have worked because the next day, by means of a very happy accident, I created these two pieces that I am absolutely IN LOVE with.
I am working on adding different flower shapes and colors to the collection. I'm so excited about creating more that I almost forgot to write my blog post! FYI: I've already added these to my Etsy printable shop.
The more I create the more I learn about myself and my art preferences. I find myself decorating my home entirely different than I would have a few years ago. I used to always go with safe choices. But now, I tend to go bold. I like standing out from the herd. I like people walking into my home and telling me how it has inspired them to try something new. It's okay to pair feminine pieces with masculine furniture. And be brave with color pairings. Mix things up. Be unique. After all, carbon copies are boring.
